BaraGamer: Tim

He plays Dead Island too!

Tell us about yourself: Well, I’m a 26 year old (27 this October) gaymer bear, living in Virginia and working as a graphic designer. When I’m not working, sleeping, or out with friends, I’m usually gaming (sometimes, I’m gaming while doing those other things, too).

I enjoy survival horror and RPGs. I’m also a comic book nerd, and love just about anything X-Men, Green Arrow or Teen Titans-related. Oh, and then when I feel like remembering what sunlight is like, I do some nature photography as a hobby.

Online Games: City of Heroes (Did I mention I like gaming and comic books?

Offline Games: Well, right now I’m all about Dead Island (I’m a sucker for anything involving zombies), but I’ve played and enjoyed games from the following series: Left4Dead, Fallout, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space, Siren, Fable, Rock Band, Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Mega Man, Legend of Zelda… this could go on awhile.

Favorite Bears/Bara in media:

  • Colossus and Wolverine (X-Men)
  • Logan (Dead Island)
  • Ryuji/Bon (Ao no Exorcist)
  • Wakka (FFX)
  • Gadot (that side character in FFXIII)
  • Francis (L4D 1)
  • Crasher Wake (Pokemon)

What first got you into the bara or bear community? Well, getting in to the bear community, I guess I just got older. I’ve been hairy since middle school and had facial hair since I was 12. For bara, I didn’t even know it existed till last year. I didn’t watch much anime or read much manga until a friend started making me borrow his stuff, and then I just got hooked.

What are your favorite bara or bear artists if any? Takeshi Matsu, Jiraiya, and Nickie. I also enjoy some old Tom of Finland stuff, too.

How would you describe your enjoyment with Dead Island so far?  I’m pretty much easy to entertain with anything related to killing zombies, so I’m really hooked right now. I enjoy the combat, the enemies and the open world. It’s taken things I’ve liked from Left 4 Dead, Fallout, and Mass Effect, and combined them in to one game.

Unfortunately, it also is combined with all the glitchiness from those games with an annoying auto-save feature. Several times now, the game has made my “last checkpoint” a completely different area. The first time it put me 300 yards away from where I had just been to a part of the map I had never even visited before. Then the second time, it sent me to a completely different area of the island. And twice now I’ve thrown my weapons, died, gone back to where I had been fighting, and my weapons were gone forever. So for long stretches of time, I’ll really be enjoying myself, and then something will bug out, and I’ll end up so pissed that I want to throw my 360 out the window!
